As Chairman of the Rothesay Horticultural Society, I welcome you to the Schedule for the 2016 Annual Flower Show. With the Pavilion now closed, I am pleased to announce that the 2016 Show will take place at the Trinity Church in Castle Street on the 3rd and 4th of September 2016. The Society will be making use of all the available space including the Church itself, all the halls and we will have gazebo`s or Marguee`s in the garden. By using these areas the Committee feels able to put on a full Schedule with no reductions in the classes.

One aspect of the 2016 Flower Show which Exhibitors will need to be aware of is that the Community Hub Shop in Guildford Square is no longer available for the Society to use to take in the Entry Forms. At this time all the Committee can ask is that members keep an eye on the Society`s website and Facebook page nearer the Show time for further details as to were the entry forms can be taken.

A few facts from the 2014 Flower Show. There were 91 exhibitors entering 854 exhibits on the tables to contest the 52 trophies. I am sure you will agree that this was a supreme effort by all those involved. I am sure that the 2015 figures, when released will be even higher.

I am pleased to announce that two new trophies will be appearing at the 2016 Flower Show. The Maureen Collins Memorial Trophy has been donated to the society and will be allocated to Section 5, Pot Plants. The Committee felt that Section 11, Baking and Preserves is now large enough to warrant a second trophy. We are please to announce that the Dr Joyce Ritchie Trophy will be presented in that section from 2016. The Committee asks that Exhibitors please read the schedule carefully to be clear which trophy they are competing for.

2015 was a very successful year for the Society, with our practical events, our plant sales and the visit to Garden Scotland all being very well supported by our members. The Society was very pleased when Jim McColl, the lead presenter of the Beechgrove Garden was able to accept our invitation to open the 2015 Flower Show. This in turn led to the BBC Beechgrove Garden team deciding to visit Bute during the week leading up to our show. A Gardener`s Question time was held and over 200 of our members attended. Two members of the Society had their Gardens filmed and the Saturday of our Flower Show was filmed as well. All this accumulated in a whole television programme showcasing the horticultural excellence to be found on the Isle of Bute. I thank everyone who helped make this event the great success it was.

Finally , thank you to all our existing and new members for your support and I look forward to welcoming you to Trinity Church for the 2016 Annual Flower Show.
