Once again, it is my pleasure as Chairman of the Rothesay Horticultural Society to welcome you to the 2017 Annual Flower Show Schedule. On behalf of the Committee I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the members who participated in last year's show and also thank the congregation of the Trinity Church for allowing the Society to hold the Flower Show in the grounds of the Church once again.

I am pleased to inform members that through the hard work of the committee, the Society was able to obtain grant funding from the Lottery Awards for all Fund to ensure that the Annual Flower Show will continue in the absence of the Pavilion as a venue. We would also like to thank our local Bute Community Thrift Store (For Bute) for their very generous donation to help with the staging materials required for the Show.

This year we have had to make one change to the schedule. With the reduction of the Rural Institutes on the island, the committee have decided to make a slight change to the S.W.R.I. team contest. Instead of the class being open to teams of 4 from any Rural Institute, the class will now be open to any single member from a Bute Rural Institute.

We have also had a new Trophy donated. The Bute Cartographic's Trophy will be for a new class in the schedule. This will be an Allotment Challenge and will be open to all Allotment and Community Groups. A wheelbarrow of produce will be judged on quality and appearance and will certainly make for an interesting challenge to exhibitors.

Also in the schedule you will find the details of the society's visit to Garden Scotland. Last year's trip was a great success. A full coach, with beautiful weather and lots to see and do. If you would like to join us on this year's trip, then please book early to avoid disappointment.

Finally, I would like to thank all our members for their continued support and wish them a happy growing season for 2017.

Frank McCabe
